November is scholarship month

Local

Scholarship Opportunities

Most colleges offer a handful of scholarships, but your local community probably has a few to consider as well.  Locally based scholarships offer the benefit of less competition, the ability to communicate with the donating organization, and the opportunity for ADK dollars to benefit ADK teens.  See below for our growing list of scholarships that are unique to the North Country.

wHERE TO BEGIN?

With all your other demands of homework, sports, and possibly even work, finding time to fill out scholarship applications can be daunting.  Here are some tips to help manage this extra task.

START SENIOR YEAR

Starting at the beginning of senior year gives you more time to work.  Some scholarships even let you apply before that.

MAKE A GOAL

Most scholarship applications need to be submitted by a certain due date.  Be sure to check due dates so you don't miss out on an awesome opportunity for financial aid.

GET LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

Find references early.   You can use teachers, co-workers, coaches, or club sponsors...but not friends.  Make sure they know you are applying for several scholarships, so they can make their letters more general or easy to tweak.  And give your references a deadline.
